
The Sputnik News Agency has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the University of Media, Arts and Communications (UniMAC) in the month of February 2026. The partnership marks a new chapter in cooperation between Russia and Ghana, particularly in advancing media collaboration across Sub-Saharan Africa.

The Signing Programme was done in a blended format where the Pro. Vice-Chancellor UniMAC’s, Prof. Winston Abroampa signed in Ghana, while representatives of Sputnik signed in Russia. With the power of digital aids, the signing was streamlined two-ways for both parties to see virtually.
Welcoming both parties to the signing, Natalia Muzhennikova, the Consular of the Embassy of the Russian Federation in Ghana, stated that, “may this first signing serve to deepen mutual understanding between Russia and Ghana, contributing to the enrichment of our countries, and help the younger generation enhance their knowledge.”

The Pro Vice-Chancellor of UniMAC, Prof. Winston Abroampa signed on behalf of the Vice-Chancellor of UniMAC, Prof. Eric Opoku Mensah and had these to say: “UniMAC is proud to launch this strategic partnership with Sputnik. In an era where information shapes policy, this collaboration empowers African voices to reach a global stage through authentic storytelling. By leveraging Sputnik’s network, we are not just importing expertise but we are equipping our students and faculty with the tools to share our continent’s narrative with professional integrity.’
Vasily Pushkov, the Director of International Cooperation at Sputnik, emphasised the importance of expanding cooperation with Ghana. He noted that, “We view Ghana as one of Russia’s key partners in West Africa. For us, it is important not only to exchange experience in the field of media communications, but also to create joint educational and outreach projects. I am confident that the engagements with UniMAC students and faculty within the framework of the SputnikPro programme and other initiatives, would help build sustainable professional ties and open new opportunities for future Ghanaian journalists.”
The signing ceremony was witnessed by Mr. Isaac Dadzie, Junior Assistant Registrar and Secretary to the Office of the Pro Vice-Chancellor and Ms. Mary Anum, the Assistant Registrar at the Centre for Global Education and Collaboration (CGEC) at UniMAC. The CGEC would see to the successful implementation of the MoU for the mutual benefits of both parties.
UniMAC is the only public university in Ghana established to train professionals in journalism, film, television, digital media, and communication technologies. This strategic partnership widens the frontiers for students and faculty to enhance knowledge in a globalised world.
