At the University of Media, Arts and Communication (UniMAC), examinations and registration functions are essential to the effective administration of the university. These provide the systems through which students are properly admitted and registered, assessed, promoted and ultimately cleared for graduation. The critical nature of these services behooves the University to constantly provide orientation and continuous improvements to Officers of this role.
It was in line with this that the Teaching and Examinations (T&E) Unit, under the Directorate of Academic Affairs, held an orientation session for Examination and Registration Officers (EROs) drawn from the University’s three Institutes, Faculties and Schools on Tuesday, 1st September 2026, at the University’s Auditorium.
The session, chaired by the Director of Academic Affairs, Mr. Felix K. Botah, brought together Officers responsible for registration, course administration, examinations and academic records across the Institute of Journalism (IJ), the Institute of Film and Television (IFT) and the Institute of Languages (IL), as well as Heads of the Student Records, Admissions and Student Management Information System Units.
In his welcome address, Mr. Botah underscored the critical role EROs play in the smooth running of the University’s academic cycle, and the importance of consistent practice across the Institutes in registration, examinations and records management.
Participants were taken through key areas of their responsibilities, including course mounting on the Student Online Information System (SOIS) ahead of student registration, setting registration limits in line with lecture hall capacity, and the proper channels for resolving student queries and complaints. The session also clarified the process for handling grade and Incomplete (IC) queries, and reaffirmed the reporting lines through which Officers should escalate matters requiring academic or institutional decisions.
Officers also shared first-hand reports on the just-ended second semester examinations, highlighting achievements as well as operational challenges around logistics, invigilation and facilities, which will inform planning for the semester ahead.
As part of the takeaways from the session, the T&E Unit compiled an ERO Role and Responsibility Reference Sheet, providing Officers with a quick guide to their remit and escalation points across registration, examinations, results and records management.
At the end of the session, it was evident that the orientation was much-needed to boost efficiency. The Director of Academic Affairs, Mr. Botah, expressed gratitude to the ERO Officers for their participation. He further reaffirmed the Directorate’s commitment to supporting them ahead of the new academic semester.
As the universities across the country prepares for new academic year, UniMAC is leaving no stone unturned to ensure that the systems and processes essential to delivering excellence in media, arts and communication education are efficient to improve student experiences across all its campuses.
