The Management and the 2026 Commonwealth Debate Champions of the University of Media, Arts and Communication (UniMAC) on Tuesday, 21 July 2026, paid a courtesy call on the Speaker of Parliament, Honourable Alban S.K. Bagbin at Parliament House of Ghana. The Call formed part of preparations for the participation of the winners of the 2026 Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) National Debate in the international competition in Sydney, Australia.
The Meeting was organised by the Directorate of Public Engagement at Parliament under the able leadership of Supt. Effia Tenge Rtd. The meeting commenced with the Public Affairs Officer, Kaakyire Asiraa Gyesi, serving as the Moderator. She welcomed guests and introduced Members of Parliament present, invited dignitaries and other delegates for the meeting.
Leading the UniMAC delegation, the Pro Vice-Chancellor, Professor Winston Kwame Abroampa, introduced members of the university’s delegation, made up of the Rector of UniMAC- Institute of Journalism – Professor Christiana Hammond; the Acting Registrar – Dr. Obaapanin Oforiwaa Adu; the Dean of Students – Dr. Ike Tandoh; and the Director of Public Affairs – Ms. Nana Efua Rockson and the two debate Champions. He expressed pride in the achievements of the debate champions – Titus Owusu Darko and Precious Agurobesa Ako, stating that their success reflects UniMAC’s commitment to academic excellence and effective communication.
The visit was to officially present the two debate champions who emerged winners of the 2026 Commonwealth Parliamentary Day National Debate to the Speaker of Parliament. Their victory saw UniMAC outperform five other participating institutions, earning the opportunity to represent both the university and Ghana at the international debate competition in Sydney, Australia.
Addressing the delegation, the Clerk to Parliament, Ebenezer Ahumah Djietror, encouraged the Champions to remain focused and committed to excellence. He reminded them that, while generations come and go, Parliament remains an enduring institution, urging them to be bold and concentrate on their mission as they prepare for the global stage.

The Speaker of Parliament, Hon. Alban S.K. Bagbin, further advised the Youth Debaters to uphold integrity throughout their academic and professional journeys. He urged them to be honest in all they do, stressing that “it is good to be good” whilst encouraging them to be worthy ambassadors of Ghana.
Present at the courtesy call were Mustapha Ahmed – Youth Coordinator for Youth Advocate; Charles Fella – Adviser, International Relations, some Members of Parliament, the TEIN President – Sherita Adu Agyei and other dignitaries who joined the delegation to support the debate champions.
The Courtesy Call reaffirmed UniMAC’s commitment to nurturing students capable of representing both the university and Ghana with distinction on the international stage, as they prepare for the Commonwealth debate competition in Sydney, Australia.
