The School of Journalism and Media Studies (SOJAMS) at the University of Media, Arts and Communication (UniMAC) will host a Conference on the State of Journalism, Media and Communication on 15th–16th July 2026. The conference will be held virtually under the theme: “Navigating the Future of Journalism, Media and Communication in a Dynamic World.”

With months of planning, preparations are far advanced for an insightful two-day virtual conference. The conference aims to bring together leading scholars, researchers, media practitioners, students, policymakers, and communication professionals to discuss emerging trends, innovations, and challenges shaping the future of journalism, media, and communication.

Registered participants will have the opportunity to engage with distinguished keynote speakers, panel discussions, and presentations from astute researchers and academics. The conference is set to promote scholarly exchange, foster collaboration, and explore practical solutions on contemporary issues affecting the media landscape.

Prof. Sikanku, Dean of the School of Journalism and Media Studies at UniMAC

Speaking on the conference, the Dean of the School of Journalism and Media Studies at UniMAC and the Conference Chair, Prof. G. Etse Sikanku, had this to say: “This conference is the first ever international conference to be held by UniMAC. We have attracted peer-reviewed papers from diverse interdisciplinary fields and institutions spanning multiple continents/countries from Asia to Europe, the Americas and obviously, Africa.  We are poised to be part of history and to set a landmark in journalistic practices as a specialised university for media, arts and communication”.

Prof. Sikanku further encouraged everyone in the communication field to register to gain first-hand perspectives on how media and communication is being re-shaped,  and how cutting-edge scholarship can contribute to advancing knowledge.

UniMAC invites media organisations, researchers, students, communication professionals, and all interested individuals to register and participate in the two-day virtual conference. For further information and updates on registration and the conference programme, all are encouraged to contact the University of Media, Arts and Communication (UniMAC) website for all information.

UniMAC is on a trajectory of reshaping media, arts and communication practices in Africa and beyond and this conference is a platform to interrogate and discuss the shifting perspectives of 21st century journalism. Don’t lose out!
