
The University of Media, Arts, and Communication (UniMAC) officially welcomed 2,177 newly admitted students into its academic community on Friday, February 14, 2024. The new cohort includes 1,473 females and 580 males, spread across the university’s three Constituent Institutes and the School of Graduate Studies.

Addressing the students, the Vice-Chancellor of UniMAC, Prof. Eric Opoku Mensah, emphasized the significance of the ceremony. He stressed that, “this marks your formal recognition as full and legitimate students of the University of Media, Arts and Communication”. He urged the students to thoroughly read and understand their student handbook, which outlines the rules and regulations that will guide their academic journey at UniMAC. On the matriculation oath, Prof. Opoku Mensah, advised the new students that, “as you take the matriculation oath today, know that you are joining a university that, though new in name, is deeply rooted in a tradition of academic excellence and innovation”.

The freshers took the matriculation oath amidst excitement. The distribution of students among the Constitute Institutes for the 2024/2025 academic year, who were matriculated, is 1,477 students for UniMAC-Institute of Journalism (IJ), 86 students for the UniMAC-Institute of Languages (IL), and 238 students for the UniMAC-Institute of Film and Television (IFT). Additionally, 252 students joined the School of Graduate Studies.

The matriculation ceremony, held to formally induct the students into UniMAC and acquaint them with the university’s academic culture, was attended by key university officials. Present also at the event were the Pro-Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Winston Abroampah; the Acting Registrar, Mrs. Patience Sowah; the three Rectors of the Constituent Institutes – Prof. Christiana Hammond for UniMAC -IJ, Prof. Cecilia Addei for UniMAC -IL and Prof. Samuel Manasseh Yirenkyi for UniMAC-IFT. In attendance were Deans, Directors, Heads of Departments, Senior Members of the UniMAC that formed the convocation.
In his concluding remarks, Prof. Opoku Mensah encouraged the matriculants to remain focused on their academic goals, work hard to achieve success, and take full advantage of their time at UniMAC. He also advised them to socialize, build meaningful friendships, and make the most of their university experience.
