The Editors of the book, “Communication and Social Change in Africa: Selected Case Studies” have donated five (5) copies of the book to the University of Media, Arts and Communication (UniMAC) to be used to enhance communication studies. The presentation took place on Thursday, June 19, 2025 at the Central Library at UniMAC’s South Legon campus. The donation was done in collaboration with the development Research and Projects Centre (DRPC), Nigeria, and with funding support from the MacArthur Foundation.

The books, presented on behalf of the editors – Dr Manfred A.K. Asuman, Dr Theodora Dame Adjin-Tettey, and Prof. Modestus Fosu – was done by Dr. Vera Esenam Fordjour from the University of Ghana’s English Unit of Teachers Education. Dr. Fordjour indicated that, as one of the editors (Prof. Modestus Fosu) was a faculty member of UniMAC, it was essential for the books to be found in the library of UniMAC to guide students in their communication research work and to also inspire them to explore publishing their own books. She further noted that the books will be valuable resources for students studying communication, as they offer in-depth insight into the subject and also support knowledge creation in the field.

Receiving the donation on behalf of UniMAC were the Pro Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Winston Abroampa, the Rector of the Institute of Journalism, Prof. Christiana Hammond, the Acting Registrar of UniMAC, Mrs. Patience Sowah, the Director of Academic Planning, Prof. Modestus Fosu, the Director of Public Affairs, Ms. Nana Efua Rockson, and the University Librarian, Mrs. Lydia Nyantakyi Baah.

Prof. Abroampa, who officially received the books on behalf of UniMAC, expressed gratitude to the donors and assured them that the materials would be used for their intended academic purposes. He then officially handed over the books to the University Librarian, Mrs. Lydia Nyantakyi Baah, for the necessary protocols to be done for the library. On receipt of the books, Mrs. Nyantakyi expressed gratitude to the Pro Vice-Chancellor and the donors and emphasized how the books would broaden students’ understanding of communication topics.
Prof. Modestus Fosu expressed appreciation for the donation and highlighted the book’s contribution to understanding the role of communication in driving social change across Africa.
The UniMAC library offers essential services for students’ education in communication, media and arts. By being a central hub for literacy development, academic support and skill enhancement, these donated books go to add to the array of resources essential for research and critical thinking skills for both students and faculty.
