
A group of students from the University of Media, Arts, and Communication – Institute of Journalism (UniMAC-IJ) has donated essential cleaning supplies to augment the sanitation efforts by management on the campuses.
The students, namely, Mrs. Clarissa Bandoh, Ms. Dorcas Tekor Martey, Ms. Portia Kpodovia, Mr. Gerold Gyabaah and Mr. Ishmael Larsey Adjei, provided various cleaning materials, including gallons of liquid soap, disinfectants, air fresheners, mopping buckets, and mops.
The donation was received on behalf of the Institute of Journalism (IJ) by the Dean of Students – Dr. Mrs. Rhodalyn Amartey; the Acting Institute Registrar – Mr. Awudu Sumaila; the Chief Administrative Assistant for Estate- Mr. Inusah Yakubu; and the Dean of the faculty of Public Relations, Advertising and Marketing – Rev. Odame Gyau, who stood in for the Rector, Prof. Christiana Hammond.
Speaking on behalf of the students who donated the items, Mrs. Clarissa Bandoh emphasized that the donation was driven by their concern for the state of the washrooms on campus in view of the increasing students’ numbers and the pressures of usage on the washrooms. She stated that, “I stand in the capacity of some students to donate these items to the school, as we are concerned about our washrooms”.

The items were officially presented to the Acting Institute Registrar, Institute of Journalism – Mr. Sumaila Awudu, who subsequently handed them over to the Chief Administrative Assistant of Estate – for efficient usage at the Institute.
The Dean of Students along with the Acting Institute Registrar and Chief Administrative Assistant, expressed sincere gratitude to the students. They also commended the students for their generosity and commitment to solving societal challenges, especially seeing to the well-being of the UniMAC-IJ community. The Dean assured the students that the donated items would be put to good use in maintaining hygiene on campus.
Instructively, a university education is intended to produce well-rounded students ready to play a crucial role in solving society’s challenges. At UniMAC-IJ, we equip our students with the knowledge, skills, and critical thinking abilities for media and communications, needed to identify complex problems, develop innovative solutions, and drive positive change across various sectors. This donation is a demonstration of our students imbibing what is being taught in the classroom and implementing it in real life situations.
UniMAC-IJ is a constituent Institute of the University of Media, Arts and Communication specialised in nurturing and training professionals in the Journalism, Media, Public Relations and Marketing fields.
